Drug Uses

Proscar is a synthetic aza-steroid analogue that selectively affects intracellular compounds. Proscar should be used by male patients, suffering from benign prostatic hypertrophy or hyperplasia (BPH).

Proscar allows controlling the process of testosterone conversion into a more active and potent metabolite, known as DHT. Reducing the level of DHT is a major factor for reducing the size of the prostate and treatment of symptomatic BPH.

Proscar has an anti-androgenic effect, which reduces the risks of obstruction in the urinary tract and partial removal of prostate gland, or connective tissue. Using Proscar tablets in combination with alpha-adrenergic antagonists may prevent the development of BPH into a more severe condition.

To reduce the frequency and intensity of the BPH symptoms, patient should take one Proscar 5mg tablet with a 24-hour interval. The anti-androgenic agent Proscar has high bioavailability and can be taken with or without food.

Missed Dose

If you forget to take a usual Proscar dose, take the tablet of this antiandrogen agent as soon as you remember. Be careful not to take Proscar if it is almost time for the next tablet.

Proscar improves BPH symptoms fast, but stable and satisfactory response is achieved within 20-24 weeks of continuous therapy. Using Proscar tablets several years in a row allows to control the size of the prostate and minimize the risks of total urologic events.

Storage

Proscar Side Effects
