The medicine is a selective inhibitor of components such as 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme a-reductase. They convert 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme and malonic acid, which prevents the formation and accumulation of sterols. The pills help to synthesize cholesterol in the liver and to create a large number of lipoprotein receptors with low density. Such actions lead to increased capture and catabolism of lipoproteins, which have a low density. The tablets make levels of total cholesterol and lipoproteins, which have light density and triglycerides lower. They contribute to the formation of a high cholesterol level.

The remedy is quickly absorbed after taking it. The highest concentration of its components in blood is reached after one to two hours. The higher the dose, the higher the degree of absorption. The pills connect with blood plasma proteins in approximately 98 %. They also form derivatives and beta-oxidation. The remedy is excreted from the organism with bile. The average period of excretion of the components lasts approximately fourteen hours.

Safety Information

There is the infrequent occurrence of rhabdomyolysis which is accompanied by acute renal failure when using this drug or another that belongs to the same category. Any violations of kidney function in the history may lead to the development of rhabdomyolysis. Under such circumstances, people must undergo a thorough examination to identify violations of the skeletal muscles. Tablets like other drugs from the group of statins can sometimes lead to myopathy. It manifests in muscle weakness, a high rate of creatine phosphokinase which is ten times higher than its normal value. If the drug is used simultaneously with atorvastatin or such drugs as clarithromycin, Itraconazole, there may be a high risk of myopathy or rhabdomyolysis.

It is recommended to take a pill of ten or twenty mg.per days for those who have dyslipidemia. People who have high cholesterol and who require a low density of lipoproteins should take 40 mg. once a day. The daily rate of the drug can range from 10 to 80 mg. Tablets can be taken at any time and regardless of food intake. The initial dose of tablets is selected by the doctor individually. Once the treatment has started, it is necessary to check lipid levels within two to four weeks and change their dose to the desired level.

For children from 10 to 17 years, doctors prescribe the dose of 10 mg.per day. The maximum dose is 20 mg. per day and it depends on the point of treatment.

Side Effects

Among the adverse reactions, the most common are such as:

● Chest pain, swelling on the face, general weakness, negative reactions to light, swelling on the body, feeling of malaise;

● In the nervous system there are such adverse events as drowsiness, loss of desire to sleep, dizziness in the head, emotional instability, disturbed coordination of movements, depression, cognitive disorders such as bad memory, and its loss;

● In the intestinal and gastric tract there are such undesired effects as gastroenteritis, duodenal ulcer, hepatitis, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain;

In the skeletal system and in the muscular system, there may be increased muscle fatigue, pain in the neck, in the joints, in the back.
