The remedy named Avodart is indicated for cure hyperplasia of the prostate of a benign character. The product is produced by a British company called GlaxoSmithKline Plc. Avodart is successfully used by many people all over the world because of its good result. The main active ingredient of the medication is Dutasteride. It stops the conversion of testosterone to androgen DHT, which is associated with the development of hyperplastic changes in the tissues of the prostate (RV). On the background of Avodart therapy, the following changes are observed: reduction in the size of the prostate gland; improvement of urination; the decrease in the probability of acute urinary retention; reduced need for surgical intervention.

The standard dosage of capsules Avodart: one capsule/day. The capsule is used entirely, regardless of food. The course of therapy is more than half of a year. Correction of the dose for people with renal insufficiency is not carried out.

Safety information

This medication, like all other, additionally has some contraindications. Avodart has to be taken with extreme attention by people who have hepatic insufficiency.

If we talk about an overdose, then the product did not have special problems.

According to clinical experiments, in volunteers, single doses of Avodart up to 40 mg/day (80 times higher than therapeutic) for one week did not cause concern in terms of protection from harm of their use. At the time of clinical trials, Avodart's doses of 5 mg/day for 6 months were applied without the appearance of additional side reactions compared with the use of dutasteride at a dose of 0.5 mg/day.

There is no special antidote, that is why, in case of a possible overdose, symptomatic and supportive therapy is performed.

Avodart is categorically prohibited and inappropriate for treating females. Application Avodart for medical care of women was not observed, because, according to the preclinical study, it was suggested that suppression of the level of circulating Dihydrotestosterone can inhibit the augmentation of external genitalia in a male fetus that the female carries.

For this reason, it is also not known whether Avodart can penetrate into breast milk.

The Avodart can be immersed through the skin, so women and children have to prevent contact with leaking capsules. If the liquid from the capsule has got on the skin, it has to be washed off instantaneously with soap and water.

Avodart does not affect the capability to ride a car or other machinery. In addition, it is prohibited from taking into with alcohol.

Side effects

The list of side conditions of Avodart is small, which makes it possible to assert that they arise only in case of abuse and overdose. Such states include:

• erectile dysfunction;
• a rash;
• an increase in the mammary glands;
• itching;
• decreased libido;
• localized edema.
